Deciding to get a life coach

March 14, 2016

There are two major inhibitors to creating change in our lives.  They are Time and Money.  Let us consider both of these inhibitors.

The first inhibitor is time.  Each of us the same amount of time in our day.  We are all blessed with the same 24 hour period each day that we must decide how to spend.  The reason ‘time’ and ‘spend’ can be used in the same sentence is that time is a resource much like money.  Some hold the belief that time=money.  In other words they see their time as an investment that produces profit and income.  For some, extra socialising, too many parties and abundant holidays are a waste of time, and therefore a waste of money.

Time is a resource that is bound by laws of the universe.  There is nothing that we can do on this planet to change the amount of time available to us.  These constraints do not allow for manipulation or denial.  All that we can do is accept that time will continue to tick away regardless or our desires, feelings or any other factor.  Time is a limited resource and commodity.

Some of the greatest minds and most successful people in this world are time poor.  They do not have or feel like they do not have the time to do all the things that really matter in their lives.  Being time poor is of major concern, as life can become overwhelming and frustrating.  We often fill our lives with so many other things that we do not feel that we have time for ourselves, our children and others.

Employing a life coach means that we must somehow find extra time each week and dedicated this time to yet another endeavour.  If you are already burning the wick at both ends, this extra commitment can seem like a burden on time.  It can seem like yet another burden to rob that valuable resource of time.  Time that you could be spending with your family.  Time that you could be working on your goals.  Time that you could undertake personal study.  Time that you could spend relaxing and recharging the batteries.  Time that could be spent sleeping.

The second major inhibitor is money.  If you are like me, you may have worked out your budget for the year and realised that there are limitations to spending.  You may be very conservative in spending.  We must learn to live within our means and to save for a rainy day.  Recent circumstances have caused a shortfall deficit in finances.  While this is an acceptable position in the short term if one has savings, in the long term this could lead to limitations such as bankruptcy.

After working out the budget and realising that a deficit exists the natural response to the thought of employing a life coach is ….. “I can’t afford it”.

This brings us full circle and we are left in the unenlightened and disempowered position in which we repeat those words, “I don’t have the time or the money”.

When one finds a deficit or lack of funds and time, there are two empowering ways to deal with this.  The first money saving principle is to decrease costs and cut back on spending and lifestyle.  The first time saving principle is effective time management.  The second money saving principle is to generate additional income.  The second time saving principle is to work smarter, not harder.  We should also consider our physical health.  (When I started using wheatgrass I found that I had a couple of extra hours awake each day).

This may sound simple enough and you may be thinking that you can do it alone.  I know that you are an incredible human being.  You have made massive changes in the past and you have accomplished a great deal in your life.  You can and will read books, watch free YouTube videos and make progress in your life.  You will speak with friends and others about your issues and concerns and will get help from many different sources.  You will self-manage your time, keep yourself motivated and make your life one of progress and fulfilment.

WILL YOU?  WILL YOU REALLY?  WILL YOU KEEP MOMENTUM?  WILL YOU PUSH THROUGH EVERY OBSTACLE?  WILL YOU CONTINUE GROWING?

The truth is that you and I are kidding ourselves if we think that we can do it alone.  There is only one reason for this.  We are disable.  We have a disable way of thinking.  Einstein stated that we are “boxed in by the boundary conditions of our thinking”.  The current experience of life is a product of thinking.  To get a new experience we need a new way of thinking.

Here are a few examples of some people who have benefited greatly from a change of thinking that inspired by a life coach.

One person had a great idea with a project that could help countless people and explained to their life coach.  “I don’t have the money”.  The life coach responded, “You don’t have the money?  There are 10 billion dollars circulating the planet each day looking for someone to take care of it. It may as well be you”.  (After working with a coach the money came by way of grant money to fund the project).

Another man stated, “I don’t have the time”.  The life coach worked with this man’s values system.  He was spending several hours each day playing Nintendo, and as a result was not achieving his goals.  Once this was dealt with this man had many extra hours to invest in creating a life that he loved.

Another person who worked with a life coach got his 3 year financial goals in just 3 months.  This was accomplished because of a change in thinking.

I was contacted by a life coach and offered their services.  I thought to myself.  “I cannot afford it and I am so busy it would be difficult to fit in a life coaching session”.  I also had this thought.  “I am doing so well right now.  Why would I possibly need a life coach?  My goals are happening and I am in a good place and I am moving in the right direction.  I don’t care if it takes me a little longer to really accelerate my life”.  My other thought was, “I need to make money right now, not spend money.  When I have more money, then I will get a life coach”.  The biggest inhibitor to me was definitely money.

This conversation that I had with myself brought home to me that fact that I was “boxed in to the boundary conditions of my thinking”.  My thinking and beliefs that I have around money needs some work.  No, it needs a complete overhaul.  I am limited in my thinking around money.

I know that I could read, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, again.  I could read autobiographies of millionaires.  I could watch stuff on youtube, or do a course on managing a small business.  I could do any number of things and I did take a day to think about what I was going to do.  I could continue my education for FREE.  This education would be valuable and yet it would be generic and there would be no accountability.  Furthermore my progress would be slow just as it has been in the past.  Progress with myself, for myself, by myself has always been slow in the past.

I felt like I need more.  I need a mentor.  I need to have someone on higher ground.  Someone to push me beyond my capabilities.  I need someone who will loosen the grip of my model of the world.  I need someone to see what I am capable of.  I need someone who will encourage and support my progress.  I need someone who has done what I am doing and who can lead me on this journey.  I need someone who can help me achieve what I want in the shortest possible amount of time.

As I thought about having a coach and the value that it would add to my life, a spiritual feeling came through my whole body.  I felt a wave of peace and goodness fill me up.  As this was happening I determined to take this “leap of faith”.  To be tutored by someone that I have never met before.  I have another person help me to be my best self.  As I wrote this paragraph this feeling of peace returned to me and I am so grateful that I am being guided and directed toward something extraordinary.

I have booked a life coach for 12 months.  I am investing in my life.  I know nothing about my life coach as I am yet to be assigned one.  For this venture I really have no clue idea about what he/she will teach me and how my life will be impacted.

Stepping into the unknown is often referred to as “a leap of faith”.  How exciting.
