choices about the food we eat
Fitness , health / April 22, 2016

How fast can you run toward a pine box?   I recall a radio celebrity once say, “Your heart only has a certain number of beats, when that runs out, you die.  That is why I choose not to exercise”.   Others say, “You’ve gotta die of something”, as they finish their third piece of chocolate cake.   No one has a crystal ball and yet most people can tell you about the 92 year old relative who drank and smoked all their life.   When it comes to the subject of health, there are so many books, opinions, reports, studies, youtube videos and differing doctors’ opinions that it is overwhelming.  Even the government has given us the food pyramid, which books today warn about.  After viewing all the contradictory information it is difficult to decide what to do and what to eat.   The biggest changes over the last 20 years have been to do with carbohydrates and fats.  Healthy fats are now good and excess carbohydrates are now bad.  Excess carbohydrates and sugar are believed to be the main causes behind the obesity and diabetic epidemic we are now facing.  For another example of dietary shifting sands, one…

Repatterning my own brain in the area of finances

The last 2 years have been the toughest financial setbacks of my life.  Prior to this I was moving forward with a focus on saving and securing a financial future.  In other words I was saving for a rainy day.   When we have financial setbacks there is a tendency to feel like a failure.  To feel that our positive efforts are not yielding fruit.  When large amounts of effort yield little or no fruit, we begin to wonder if it was all worth it.  There is a tendency to throw in the towel and kick up our heels and just give up.  The storyteller informs us that if a tree does not yield fruit, it is good for nothing, and should be hewn down and cast into the fire.   Many people work extremely hard when starting a new business.  Some work 60 plus hours per week.  They will make huge sacrifices in an attempt to establish and run a successful business.  The biggest concern is the fact that 90% of businesses fail within the first 5 years of operation.   For me, I worked out that I would earn almost as much money on welfare, as I am…

He was crouching, lurking in the corner of the room like a creature of the night.

I did some neurological repatterning with a young man of about 24 years old.  This young man had experienced a difficult childhood, and as a result he was struggling to cope with everyday life.  He had made some choices that made it difficult for him to cope in certain situations.  One of these situations was an unexpected or unwelcome touch on his body.  This action would trigger feeling of betrayal that he described as a blue feeling that stated in the middle of his chest and shot into his arms and body.  It left him feeling empty and angrily visually fixated on whatever he believed had caused it.   I found this out as he was telling me about his challenges and I shouted “be healed”, while putting my hand on his head like a priest in the Pentecostal faith.  (Neurological shock).   His reaction was immediate and aggressive.  He wanted to assault me and I could see the hatred he was displaying was out of this world.  He squeezed his fists and his eyes narrowed on my.  I just watched patiently.  It appeared like he was fighting against the temptation to attack and kill me.  He moved over away…

Growing your emotional Intelligence.
Uplifting / April 22, 2016

A great deal has been written and discussed about emotional intelligence (EQ). According to research there are a number or reasons why it is good to have high EQ. These people who have a high EQ have…. Far less depression or anxiety in their lives. Greater ability to form relationships. Greater ability to maintain long term relationships. Ability to build rapid rapport. Ability to show empathy, not just sympathy. Ability to read a situation, connect with others, and lead them in a positive way. Ability to actually listen and become absorbed in the world of another. Ability to take control of the meanings of life in an empowering way. Ability to take personal responsibility for all thoughts and feelings. High personal individual accountability.   Finally a person with high EQ is able to access more positive emotions and fill their lives with joy and happiness, wealth and success.  Emotional intelligent people have the capacity to move emotions ‘at will’ to a heightened positive state.  Emotional flexibility can be learned and practiced. As we consider the benefit of emotional mastery, all of us could find compelling reasons to increase our EQ.   Many years ago when I was fresh out of…

Relationship Dysfunction.

I remember once thinking or believing that all relationships in this world are dysfunctional.  Yet I realised that I had not yet met every couple or family in this world, neither is it possible to do.  Yet this idea that every relationship is dysfunctional is a thought that has put me at ease as I consider the dysfunctions that do and have existed in my family.   1/         Acknowledge the Dysfunction.   My experience is that most families and individuals attempt to mask, hide, deny or pretend they know nothing about their dysfunction.  Dysfunctions, weather large or small plague families and individuals, making it impossible to imagine a perfectly functional family.  The first step to eliminating the dysfunction in our relationships is to recognise that there is a dysfunction.  As imperfect people in an imperfect world, we are going to offend, hurt, act selfishly and impact others in a negative way.  This may be intentional or otherwise, yet the truth remains that to be human is to make mistakes and be less than perfect.  Often it is easier to see the weaknesses of others.  As we honestly look to our thoughts, actions, habits and character, we will soon discover that we…
