The belief continuum.

I had a friend visit come to me on Sunday and tell me he had a headache.  He told me that it had been with him all day and that he could not seem to shake it.

I was happy to help.  We used 3 techniques and the headache was completely gone.

As I have thought about this experience I have come up with 4 steps that ensure that you will eliminate pain from your body.

1/ First he came and asked for help.

2/ He believed that the process would work.

3/ He did the process in a positive way.

4/ The first technique did not fully resolve the issue, so I had him continue to work and utilised a 2nd and a 3rd technique.

What do we learn?  1.  Ask for help.  If you want to get past something, you may not have the tools and beliefs to overcome it on your own.  Often we can lean on someone who has a different level of knowledge and experience.  This requires humility and a realisation that we do not know it all.  Sometimes this will also cost us time, money, effort and energy.  It may cost us our pride and ego.

2.  Believe in the process.  We must think about the belief continuum.  The belief continuum is made up of three distinct sections. The first is fear, laziness and limited belief.   The half way point contains our hopes and dreams.  On the higher end we have total conviction and absolute knowledge.  Where are we on this continuum?  If we expect to rise above the challenges that encroach upon us we must seek for absolute knowledge or total conviction?  As we have a positive experience, no matter how small, this builds belief.  According to NLP each person has a convincer strategy.  This simply refers to how many positive experiences are needed in order for a person to have total conviction and absolute knowledge.  (don’t get hung up on absolute knowledge.  This is simply a metaphor for the highest level of belief).

3. Do the work. You must do it.  Put in the effort and the focus.  Follow instructions.  Do the motions to a high level of participation.  Give it you all, or at least to the highest degree you can.  Desire for it to work and do all that you can to make it so.

4. Keep going until you get the result you want.  If at first you don’t succeed, lift your confidence and belief in the process, and then go and use it again.  Any change, no matter how small is a small step in the right direction.  Every little success is, every incremental movement is a course set in motion. Keep your spirit high and your belief strong until you get the result you want.

I have used this technique more than 100 times which is a number way beyond my personal convincer strategy.  My belief is that everyone who I use this technique on will get relief.  As my belief has gotten stronger, total conviction and absolute knowledge, so therefore the results continue.  What I have learned is that it is not so much about the tool or technique.  It is about my belief system, and my ability to lift another persons belief system.  What I have learned is that this work is 80 percent psychology, and 20 percent mechanics.  80 percent belief, 20 percent technique.
